Officiating has deepened my understanding of the rules, while also honing my coaching abilities. Through this experience, I’ve mastered handling pressure, criticism, and effective communication.
Officiating K-8th grade basketball taught me to handle pressure and criticism constructively. These experiences improved my focus, composure, and ability to empathize with frustrated individuals.I handle pressure during games by staying focused, ignoring distractions, and empathizing with frustrated individuals while maintaining an open mind and taking deep breaths.
Additionally, I’ve developed strong communication skills through resolving issues with coaches and parents. Over the hundreds of games that I officiated, I learned to address concerns promptly. This enabled me to move forward positively.
